dc.description.abstractBackground. As we age, skin-related disorders increase, one of which is onychomycosis. Onychomycosis is a nail infection caused by fungus. In the elderly, there are various comorbidities and a decrease in the body's immunity which makes it easier for infections to occur. Objective. This study aims to determine the profile of onychomycosis in elderly patients at the Skin and Venereology Polyclinic, Prof. Hospital. dr.iChairuddin Panusunan Lubis University of North Sumatra 2019-2024. Method. This research is a retrospective descriptive study using data on dermatophytosis patients from medical records at Prof. Hospital. dr. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis University of North Sumatra in 2020-2022. Result and Discussion. The results obtained from this study were that the majority of cases affected by onychomycosis were aged 60-65 years with 66.7% of cases. In this study there were more male patients with 62.5% of cases. In onychomycosis sufferers with comorbid criteria, 71.4% of cases had comorbidities. Onychomycosis patients based on occupation are in the wet work group, namely 52.4% of cases. In onychomycosis patients, the most common treatment is itraconazole with 23.8% of cases. The most common supporting examinations in this study were fungal culture with 23.8% of cases. The type of fungus that most infects is criteria and others as much as 14.3% of cases. Based on the type of onychomycosis, the most common type is distolateral subungual onychomycosis with 90.5% of cases. Conclusion. The majority of patients suffering from onychomycosis were of the distolateral subungual type, the majority were 60-65 years old and the majority had comorbidities, the majority gender was male. The professions most infected are those exposed to wet areas, the type of drug consumed is itraconazole with the most supporting examination being fungal culture. The type of fungus that infects the most is the category and others, namely T. mentagrophytes.en_US
