Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in children worldwide. This disease can be treated with chemotherapy. However, chemotherapy can have side effects on the soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity, as well as anomalies in the growth and development of teeth. The aim of this study is to assess the OHI-S status, deft/DMFT, and saliva pH in children undergoing chemotherapy at Yayasan Onkologi Anak Medan (YOAM) in 2024. This research is descriptive with a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique used was total sampling according to inclusion-exclusion criteria. The research data were collected through questionnaires, as well as OHI-S, deft/DMFT, and saliva pH examinations in the respondents oral cavities. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistical tests. The study involved a total of 27 respondents, and univariate analysis showed that the average debris index score was 2.52±0.493, calculus index was 1.62±0.873, and OHI-S was 4.14±1.203. The majority of the OHI-S status in children was poor, with 22 participants (81.5%), followed by 5 participants (18.5%) with moderate OHI-S, and no participants with good OHI-S status. The deft score in respondents with primary teeth was 5.77±4.96, the deft and DMFT scores in respondents with mixed dentition were 6.50±5.33 and 0.58±1.4, respectively, and the DMFT score for permanent teeth was 6.00±4.24. The most common saliva pH in children was neutral, with 16 participants (59.3%), followed by acidic saliva pH in 10 participants (37%), and only 1 participant (3.7%) had basic saliva pH. It is recommended that oral health examination and care protocols be conducted before chemotherapy treatment.
