The Socioeconomic Impact of Edible Bird's Nest Management (Case Study: Teluk Bakung Village, Tanjung Pura District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra).
Abstract
The production and export of edible bird's nests in Indonesia have been steadily increasing year by year. This growth presents a significant opportunity for local communities to establish and expand bird's nest businesses. However, the rise in bird's nest businesses has brought both positive and negative socioeconomic impacts. One such business exists in Teluk Bakung Village, Tanjung Pura District, Langkat Regency, which serves as the study area for this research. The aim of this study is to analyze the social and economic impacts of edible bird's nest management in Teluk Bakung Village, Tanjung Pura District, Langkat Regency. The analysis employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with a sample size of 30 respondents. The results indicate that, socially, the community does not experience significant disturbances from the noise of bird-calling devices, bird droppings, or disease risks associated with edible-nest swiftlets. Economically, some community members benefit from increased income and additional business opportunities.
