This research aims to determine the effect of adding coconut shell on hardness and
wear rate. The materials used in this research were coconut shells, clam shells, iron
powder (Fe) and resin. The process of making brake pads is through a metallurgical
process, namely the process of mixing the powder until it is evenly distributed. The
evently distributed powder is then put into a mold and compacted with a load of 2 tons
for 15 minutes and sintered at a temperature of 175℃ for 15 minutes. Testing includes
hardnesstests and wear tests. The best hardness and wear test results were found in composition Awith
results of 28,02 BHN, 8,8 x 10−6(gr/mm2). The friction coefficient tests carried out have
different values for each composition. Composition A has a friction coefficient value of
0,1263, composition B has a friction coefficient value of 0,1428 and composition C has
a friction coefficient value of 0,1368
