    Abstract
Introduction. Infectious diseases continue to be a significant cause of high morbidity and mortality in tropical regions such as Indonesia. Longan peel contains bioactive compounds that have not been fully explored for their antimicrobial potential and are typically considered waste. Objective. To evaluate the antibacterial effects of longan peel extract (Dimocarpus longan Lour) on the growth of Methicillin-Susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) and Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Method. This study utilized a true experimental design with a posttest-only control group design. The antibacterial activity of ethanol extract from longan skin was evaluated using the broth dilution method. The sample consisted of 12 treatment groups: positive control (media with bacterial suspension), negative control (media alone), and ethanol extracts of longan peel at concentrations of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, and 100%, each with 4 replications. Results and Discussion. The results of the study indicated that the MIC value could not be determined due to the high turbidity of the longan peel extract. The MBC value for both MSSA and MRSA was observed at a concentration of 100%. The observed antibacterial activity of the longan peel extract is attributed to its bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, tannins, and triterpenes/steroid. Conclusion. Longan peel extract is effective in inhibiting the growth of both MSSA and MRSA bacteria in vitro.
