Gambaran Faktor Risiko Stroke Iskemik di Rumah Sakit Umum Pusat Haji Adam Malik Medan dan Rumah Sakit Prof. Dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Universitas Sumatera Utara Tahun 2022-2023

Abstract

Background. Stroke is a medical condition that occurs suddenly due to a muscle disorder, either locally or throughout the body, with symptoms lasting at least 24 hours and potentially resulting in fatal outcomes, with no clear cause other than arterial abnormalities. Objective. This study aims to provide a deeper understanding of factors that may increase the risk of ischemic stroke. Methods.This research is a descriptive observational with a cross-sectional design. The study sample consists of ischemic stroke patients. Results. The risk factors for ischemic stroke at Prof. dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Hospital, University of North Sumatra, and Haji Adam Malik Hospital, Medan, show that the majority of patients are male and ≥ 55 years old. The Batak ethnic group dominates the ischemic stroke patient population in both hospitals. History of hypertension, diabetic type 2, heart disease, and hypercholesterolemia cannot be concluded as major risk factors due to incomplete data similarly, obesity was found only in a few patients and is insufficient to be considered as a risk factor. Conclusion. The study concludes that the majority of ischemic stroke patients at Haji Adam Malik Central General Hospital, Medan, and Prof. dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Hospital, University of North Sumatra, in 2022–2023 were male, aged ≥ 55, and dominantly from Batak ethnicity. Major risk factors such as history of hypertension, diabetic type 2, heart disease, and hypercholesterolemia could not be established due to incomplete data, and obesity was observed in only a few patients, making it insufficient to be considered a risk factor for ischemic stroke.
