dc.description.abstract | 2-Phenylethanol (2-PE) is a higher aromatic alcohol product with a
scent/taste identical to that of flowers and is one of the most important fragrance
chemicals in the perfume, cosmetics, and other chemical industries. The need for
the use of 2-Phenylethanol in Indonesia in the chemical industry is increasing
every year. Therefore, it is planned to establish a 2-Phenylethanol manufacturing
plant using benzene and oxyrane raw materials. In the preliminary design, the 2-
Phenylethanol production facility utilizing Benzene and Oxyrana has a production
capacity of 13,000 tons/year and operates for 330 days annually. The primary
process in the preliminary design of this facility comprises four stages: raw
material preparation, reaction, benzene recovery, and final product purification.
The reaction involves a Friedel-Crafts alkylation that occurs in three continuous
stirred tank reactors arranged in series, operating at a temperature of 9°C and a
pressure of 0.855 atm, with a residence time of 40 minutes for each reactor. The
proposed factory is to be established in the Suryacipta Industrial Estate, located in
Karawang Regency, West Java Province, encompassing an area of 17,926 m2. The
facility will require a workforce of 195 individuals and will operate as a Limited
Liability Company (PT) under the leadership of a President Director. The
establishment and operation of the factory necessitate an investment capital of
IDR 2,814,532,505,209 and entail production costs of IDR 2,579,598,768,918.
Based on the feasibility analysis, this plant exhibits a Break-Even Point (BEP) of
47.957%, a Return on Investment (ROI) of 17.254%, a Payback Period (POT) of
5 years and 10 months, a Return on Net worth (RON) of 28.757%, and an Internal
Rate of Return (IRR) of 19.32%. The results of the economic analysis indicate
that the pre-design of a facility for the production of 2-Phenylethanol from
benzene and oxyrane utilizing the Friedel-Crafts alkylation process is
economically viable. | en_US |
