Design of a Turmeric (Curcuma Ionga) Dryer Using a Heat Pump with a Double Closed Cycle Condenser with a Capacity of 1 Kg and a Power of 1 Pk
Abstract
This research discusses drying turmeric using a closed cycle heat pump using 1 PK
power which is based on the ease of damage to the contents of turmeric when
exposed to heat. Therefore, to get turmeric powder, a relatively low temperature of
around 35-45°C is required. Apart from being able to increase the temperature, this
heat pump can also reduce air humidity in the drying process and has an optimal
drying level. The main components of this heat pump are the compressor, condenser,
evaporator and expansion valve. The aim of this research is to design and build a
turmeric dryer using a heat pump with a capacity of 1 kg with a power of 1 PK.
Assuming a drying efficiency of 75.78%, the amount of heat required to dry 1 kg of
turmeric is around 523.131 kJ. Assuming a COP of 2.30-3.4, the heat released by
the condenser is 46.86℃ kW with compressor work of 59.46 kJ/kg and humidity in
the drying room 30%. The drying rack has dimensions of 38 cm x 38 cm consisting
of 2 The level and dimensions of the drying room are 58 cm x 58 cm x 58 cm.
