Background. Late puberty adolescents (18–22 years) University students are one of the groups at risk for poor nutritional status. Objective. To compare the nutritional status of active medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sumatera Utara, in 2023 over the past two years based on BMI and WC. Method. This is a quantitative study with a descriptive analytic approach and a prospective cohort design. The population in this study consists of 70 active students from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sumatera Utara, in 2023. The sample size was calculated using Lemeshow's formula. Results. The majority of the study subjects were female (67.1%), did not have a family history of obesity (61.4%), had 3-5 hours of sleep per day (48.6%), consumed junk food (58.6%), exercised 1-2 times a week (54.3%), and did not smoke (98.6%). Among students with a family history of obesity, the condition was most commonly reported in fathers (17.1%). The average waist circumference in 70 study subjects in 2023 was 81.84 cm (range 60-125 cm), while in 2024 it slightly decreased to 81.62 cm (range 59-123 cm). The average BMI in 2023 was 23.03 kg/m², while in 2024 it was 22.96 kg/m². Statistical tests showed a p-value of 0.94 for the average nutritional status using the BMI indicator and a p-value of 0.303 using the waist circumference indicator. Conclusion. There were no statistically significant differences in the nutritional status of medical students in 2023 and 2024, based on both BMI (p = 0.94) and waist circumference (p = 0.303).en_US
