    Abstract
Background: UTIs, or urinary tract infections, are a prevalent medical condition, particularly in women. Preventing UTIs is mostly dependent on personal hygiene, especially in the urogenital area. Understanding good hygiene habits can affect the incidence of UTIs. Research on the connection between students' incidence of UTIs and their understanding of personal hygiene is crucial. The purpose of this study is to ascertain whether the incidence of urinary tract infections and the 2024 cohort of medical students at Universitas Sumatera Utara are related in terms of their understanding of urogenital personal hygiene. Method: A cross-sectional methodology is used in this quantitative study. Purposive sampling was used to choose 129 medical students in total. A questionnaire measuring knowledge of personal hygiene, namely urogenital hygiene, and UTI symptoms was used to gather data. Results: With a p-value < 0.001, data analysis using the Spearman test revealed a strong correlation between the incidence of UTI symptoms and awareness of urogenital personal hygiene. The correlation coefficient of -0.549 indicates a moderate negative correlation, meaning that the better the knowledge of personal hygiene, the lower the likelihood of experiencing UTI symptoms. Conclusion: The study concludes that knowledge of personal hygiene, especially urogenital hygiene, is significantly related to the occurrence of urinary tract infections. Therefore, improving personal hygiene knowledge is crucial for preventing UTIs among students. More intensive education on personal hygiene, especially in the urogenital area, is necessary to reduce the risk of urinary tract infections.
