Introduction. Head injury is one of the serious consequences of traffic accidents that can be fatal. Objective. This study aims to determine the description of head injuries in traffic accident victims who were treated at the Emergency Department of Dr Pirngadi Medan Hospital in 2021-2023. Methods. This study used a retrospective descriptive method by collecting data from the medical records of patients who suffered head injuries due to traffic accidents. Data were analysed to see the distribution of head injuries based on demographic factors (age and gender), location of injury, classification of injury, type of wound, and intracranial bleeding. From the data obtained, the distribution of cases was analysed and presented according to these categories to provide a comprehensive understanding of head injury trends and patterns. Results and Discussion. The results showed that there were 120 cases of head injury due to traffic accidents in 2021-2023, with the adult age group (19-59 years old) being the most frequently affected (48.3%). Most of the victims were male (60%), with the most common injury location in the temporalis region (30%). Mild head injury was the most common type of injury (93.3%), with abrasions as the most common type of injury (35.8%). The most common type of intracranial haemorrhage was epidural haematoma (8.3%). Conclusion. Head injuries due to traffic accidents are most commonly experienced by adult males with minor injuries to the temporalis area.
