This research is entitled "Paebathon pahompu in the Toba Batak Ethnic: Study of Oral Traditions". Paebathon pahompu is a tradition found in the Toba Batak community. This activity is to introduce or get closer to family and relatives from the mother's side of the family. This research focuses on the performance, text, co
text, and context in the paebathon pahompu, the values contained in the paebathon pahompu oral tradition, and the norms contained in the paebathon pahompu oral tradition. The theory applied to analyze the data in this research is the oral tradition theory proposed by Robert Sibarani, using descriptive qualitative research methods. The results obtained from this research include: performance consists of 3, namely (1). text, namely verbal text and non verbal text in paebathon pahompu, (2). The co text in the paebathon pahompu contains 4 co
text elements, namely paralinguistic elements, kinetic elements, proxemic elements, and material elements, and (3) context, namely the socio cultural context, situational context, and ideological context contained in the paebathon pahompu. There are 7 values in the paebathon pahompu oral tradition, namely: (1) the value of honesty, (2) the value of social solidarity, (3) the value of commitment, (4) the value of positive thinking, (5) the value of hard work, (6) the value of discipline, and (7) the value of mutual cooperation. There are 5 norms in the paebathon pahompu oral tradition, namely: (1) norms of respect, (2) norms of politeness, (3) obligations norms, (4) educational norms, (5) customary inheritance norms.
