Abstract

This study aims to describe the response of the people of Huta godang Village, Muara District, North Tapanuli Regency to the legend of Pangulu Balang using psycholiterary studies based on the theory of Sigmund Freud. The intrinsic elements obtained from this legend are theme, plot, setting, characters characterization id, ego, superego.The research used haul’s qualitative descriptive research method and this research is about the history of the legend of Pangulu Balang in society. In legend and in society, each community has a magical structure that always fuctions to maintain the security of the community. This legend tell of a statue of pangulu balang which is a guardian statue for the village and between clans, for the sake of the wealth of the people in huta ciestang village, muara district, north Tapanuli regency. The legend of pangulu balang also provides milas which pousted the community and reminded the community to be careful in doing everything in the village.
