dc.description.abstract | Stingless bee propolis (Trigona spp.) contains flavonoid, tannin, and saponin compounds that can potentially be antifungal, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory. This study aimed to analyse the effect of the bee propolis ointment on the duration of healing the burn area, and a swell as an antibacterial against the burn wounds. The application of bee propolis ointment is expected as natural medicine in accelerating the healing of burn wounds and it does not cause damage to the outer layer of the skin. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD), 25 male mice (Mus musculus L.) were divided into 5 treatment groups, which were the K- (burns without treatment); K+ (burns treated with povidone iodine); and bee propolis ointment treatment groups with different concentrations of 50, 75, and 100%. The application of bee propolis ointment, the duration of healing, and the measurement of burn area were carried out for 14 days, and then tested for antibacterial activity using Mueller Hinton Agar media. The results showed that the bee propolis ointment has potentially healing the burn wounds with the fastest average healing time of 9.8 days, reducing burn area with the fastest wound closure on day of 10, and gives antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The concentration of 100% of bee propolis ointment is the most effective among all. | en_US |
