This study aims to 1) describe the expression of pemali for women in Javanese society
in Tanjung Pasir Village, 2) describe the meaning in the expression of pemali for
women in Javanese society in Tanjung Pasir Village. This type of research is
qualitative research. The approach used in this research is semiotics according to
Roland Barthes. The data collection technique used is the method of listening and
speaking and interviews, and documentation. The data collected are primary and
secondary data. Primary data in the form of expressions of women's pemali obtained
from informants. Informants are the main source to obtain data on the expression of
pemali. Secondary data were obtained through an online dictionary of Indonesian
Javanese language, and a book entitled everything about myths is here by Azizah and
Alee. The data analysis technique uses the commensurate method and the agih
method. The results of the research conducted obtained 33 expressions of pemali for
women and their meanings. Among the expressions of pemali for women are
characterized by the word “wedok” which means woman, “meteng” means pregnant,
“bojo” means husband, “ayune” means beautiful, “nglairke” means
