Overview of Risk Factors for Renal Cell Carcinoma Cases at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital in 2022-2023
Abstract
Introduction. Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC) is a type of kidney cancer that is commonly found, with an increasing prevalence in various countries, including Indonesia. Several risk factors for RCC that have been identified globally include age, gender, hypertension, obesity, and smoking habits. Objective. This study aims to determine the risk factors for RCC, such as age, gender, hypertension, obesity and smoking habits. Method. The method used is descriptive with a cross-sectional approach. Medical record data from 60 RCC patients who met the inclusion criteria were analyzed using univariate analysis. Results and Discussion. The results showed that 45% of RCC patients were >50 years old, with a higher incidence in men (53.3%) than women. Hypertension was found in 38.3% of patients, while obesity was identified in only 6.7% of the studied population. Smoking habits emerged as a significant factor, although anamnesis data related to smoking habits was incomplete, which reduced the accuracy of risk data collection. Conclusion. Identification of dominant RCC risk factors is important to support early detection and prevention strategies. This study recommends improving medical records to support more accurate analysis of RCC risk factors.
