dc.description.abstract | Type 2 Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot use the insulin produced effectively. IDF reports that 537 million adults suffering from diabetes and this number is expected to increase to 643 million by 2030. Indonesia ranks 56th with 10.6% diabetes prevalence and 10.6% obesity prevalence at 158 (Wisevoter, 2023). Prevalence of diabetes diagnosed by doctors in Medan City is 2.7% (Dinkes Kota Medan, 2019). Based on the preliminary survey, it is known that in the last two years at Sundari Hospital, Diabetes Mellitus cases are included in the top 5 diseases with the highest number of cases. The purpose of this study is to find out the relationhip of characteristic and obesity with the incidence of Type 2 DM on outpatient at Sundari Hospital in 2023. The type of research used is analytical with cross sectional design. The population is all patients who receive outpatient treatment at the internal medicine clinic and samples in this study where 99 people which taken using accidental sampling techniques. The results showed the highest proportion of outpatients aged ≥ 57 years (65.7%), female (69.7%), Java (66.7%), Islamic (81.8%), higher education (56.6%), employed (71.7%), low-income (60.6%), married (81.8%)), family history (59.6%), obesity (50.5%) and there was a significant correlation between age (p=0.029), sex (p = 0.030), family history (P=0.001), and obesity (p=2.01) with the incidence of type 2 DM. It is advised to the hospital, especially in the field of Hospital Health Promotion, to further improve health programs, especially for patients who are ≥ 57 old with counseling (regular health checks, do not smoke, diligent physical activity, balanced nutritional diet, adequate rest and manage stress) and conduct early detection. | en_US |
