Profil dan Karakteristik Pasien Tumor Otak di Perawatan Intensif RS Adam Malik

Abstract

Introduction. A brain tumor is an expansive lesion that forms a mass in the skull space (intracranial) or spinal cord. There are several critical conditions that cause brain tumor patients to be in critical condition. Intensive care is needed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for patients with these conditions. Objective. This study was conducted to provide data on the profile and characteristics of brain tumor patients treated in the ICU of Adam Malik Hospital, Medan in 2022-2023. Method. This study used a retrospective descriptive research design with secondary data obtained from medical records of brain tumor patients undergoing treatment in the ICU of Adam Malik Hospital. The study sample consisted of 60 patients obtained through the total sampling method. Results and Discussion. Most ICU brain tumor patients were in the age group ≤44 years (53.3%), male (60%), student occupation (15%), high school education status (51.7%), type of brain tumor astrocytoma (26.7%), initial symptoms of decreased consciousness (51.7%), initial management (56.7%), physiotherapy therapy (35%), duration ≥5 days (55%), and condition of discharge from the ICU alive (71.7%). Conclusion. Male patients with brain tumors were more likely to undergo intensive care in the ICU, with the dominant age group ≤44 years. Patients generally had astrocytoma, received initial management and therapy, and were discharged from the ICU alive.
