The high workload of nurses in the Emergency Department (ED) is a significant factor contributing to decreased productivity, which in turn affects the quality of healthcare services. Dr. Pirngadi Hospital in Medan, as one of the primary referral hospitals in North Sumatra, faces challenges in managing the workload of ED nurses. This study aims to analyze the workload of ED nurses at Dr. Pirngadi Hospital in Medan. This research employs a quantitative approach with a descriptive method, conducted in the Emergency Department of Dr. Pirngadi Hospital Medan from May 2024 to June 2024. The study population includes all 26 nurses working in the Emergency Department of Dr. Pirngadi Hospital Medan. The sample for this study was determined using a total sampling technique, resulting in a sample size of 26 nurses. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire. The results indicate that the majority of ED nurses at Dr. Pirngadi Hospital Medan experience a very heavy workload, with 20 nurses (76.9%) reporting such conditions. The workload level of ED nurses at Dr. Pirngadi Hospital Medan is at a concerning level. Recommendations for Dr. Pirngadi Hospital Medan include optimizing human resources, particularly by increasing the number of nurses in the Emergency Department, implementing an effective shift rotation system by the Head of the Emergency Department, and providing training and development for ED nurses.en_US
