Analysis of Solid Waste 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) Behavior Among Students at Islamic Center Foundation North Sumatra in 2024
Abstract
The phenomenon of waste is the biggest problem today. Solid waste annually generates 2.01 billion tons and is expected to increase to 3.40 billion tons per year by 2050. This increase in the amount of waste is very worrying and has a negative impact on the welfare of society. Therefore, a solution is needed through solid waste management with the 3R principle (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) in accordance with Law No. 18 of 2008. The purpose of this study was to analysis of solid waste 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) behavior among Students at Islamic Centre Foundation North Sumatra in 2024. This type of research is descriptive analytic research with survey method and cross-sectional approach. The study population was the students of the Islamic Center Foundation of North Sumatra class X, XI, and XII as many as 324 students. Samples were taken using the Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling technique, totaling 179 samples. Based on univariate analysis, it was found that the majority of santri knowledge about waste management with the 3R principle was not good (52.5%), santri attitudes were good (77.7%), and santri actions were poor (91.1%). Bivariate analysis using chi-square showed that there was no relationship between gender (p = 0.684), grade level (p = 0.180), knowledge (p = 0.833), and attitude (p = 0.717) with solid waste management actions with 3R principles. It is recommended that pesantren provide more education about waste management and provide training facilities to santri on how to make creative products from plastic waste, this can be a solution to increase santri knowledge about the importance of waste recycling.
