Abstract

Senior practice is one of the subjects in the Ners professional education program at the Faculty of Nursing, University of North Sumatra which aims to improve the ability of professional students to apply nursing theories and concepts that have been obtained during the educational process. The competencies that must be achieved by professional students in senior practice are being able to carry out nursing care management independently and collaboratively on clients who have breast cancer in the mahogany-meranti room of Prof. Dr. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Hospital, University of North Sumatra through the nursing care process approach from assessment to evaluation. Nursing care management that is applied is nursing care management in breast cancer. Breast cancer is a common cause of death in women and its incidence in 2020, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the world. Data from the Institute for Research on Cancer (IARC), more than 2.26 million new cases of breast cancer and nearly 685,000 deaths from breast cancer have been identified worldwide. This senior practical activity is carried out by conducting an assessment by conducting interviews, and observation and providing education. From the results of the assessment, it was found that the documentation of nursing care was optimal, the existence of Nursing Care Standards, especially in breast cancer and the lack of knowledge of patients and families about breast cancer So based on these problems, it is necessary to improve the services and nursing care provided.
