Nursing Care Management for Cases of Gouty Arthritis in the Elderly in Base Mansyur, Medan Johor District
Abstract
Gout Arthritis is a joint disease caused by high uric acid in the blood. High uric acid levels in the blood exceed normal limits, namely normal uric acid levels in women: 2.6 – 6 mg/dl, and in men 3 – 7 mg/dl, causing a buildup of uric acid in the joints and other body organs. Based on data from the World Health Organization, the prevalence of gout arthritis in the world is 34.2%. The main factor in gouty arthritis is eating foods that contain excessive purines. The elderly are the age group that most often suffers from Gouty Arthritis. The aim of this senior practicum is to manage nursing care carried out on 2 patients. The method used is a case study approach for 3 weeks starting from May 13-27 May 2024. The main problem for gouty arthritis sufferers is joint pain/acute pain and lack of knowledge. The implementation carried out was teaching ergonomic exercises, warm and cold compresses and providing health education. The implementation results showed a reduction in numbness, stiffness in the legs and arms after doing ergonomic exercises 3 times in 1 week. Patients also reduce consumption of foods containing purine substances
