Management of Nursing Care for Patients with Hypertension Using Guide Imagery Technique in the Mahogany Meranti Hospital Inpatient Room Prof. Dr. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis
Abstract
Hypertension is a systolic blood pressure of more than 140 mmHg and a diastolic blood pressure of more than 90 mmHg, based on two or more measurements. Hypertension is called the silent killer because it is a deadly disease without any symptoms. Complications of hypertension if left untreated will affect the cardiovascular, nervous and kidney systems. One non-pharmacological relaxation therapy that can be done to lower blood pressure is guided imagery therapy. Guided imagery therapy is a relaxation technique that uses a person's imagination in a way that is specifically designed to achieve a certain effect. The aim of this senior practicum is to apply nursing theories and concepts in managing and providing nursing care to patients with hypertension. Nursing care was carried out on 21-24 May 2024 for two patients suffering from hypertension by providing non- pharmacological guided imagery therapy interventions to reduce blood pressure. The results obtained after being given guided imagery therapy for 3 consecutive days were differences in blood pressure before and after being given the therapy. Patients also understand how to carry out guided imagery therapy independently. It is recommended for patients and families to regularly measure blood pressure in health services and to carry out guided imagery therapy independently to control rising blood pressure.
