Controlling Blood Sugar Levels in Diabetes Mellitus Patients with Benson Relaxation Therapy in the Elderly in Asam Kumbang Village, Medan Selayang
Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that cannot be cured, but can be controlled with proper management. Controlling diabetes mellitus is greatly influenced by diabetes independence in carrying out correct diabetes care so that diabetes management can become the patient's lifestyle. The education provided about Diabetes Mellitus includes controlling blood sugar levels through Benson relaxation therapy. Benson relaxation therapy is used to reduce stress. The mechanism for reducing blood sugar levels with Benson relaxation occurs through reducing physical and psychological stress which will then reduce epinephrine, reduce cortisol, reduce glucagon and reduce thyroid hormone. The aim of this senior practical is to apply control of blood sugar levels in Diabetes Mellitus patients using Benson Relaxation Therapy for the Elderly in Asam Kumbang Village, Medan Selayang. This senior practicum uses survey and interview methods. There were 5 participants in this senior practicum. Data collection was carried out by assessment and interviews. The conclusion obtained was that 5 elderly participants suffered from Diabetes Mellitus with the same symptoms and complaints and there were 3 similar nursing diagnoses. After the education was carried out, it was found that the client's knowledge increased and he felt comfortable and relaxed after Benson relaxation therapy. It is recommended that clients have regular health checks and carry out Benson relaxation therapy to control blood sugar levels.
