Utilization of School Library in the Students of SMP Negeri 2 Toma, Nias Selatan Regency
Abstract
The objective of this research is to delve into utilization of school library in the junior high school students at SMP Negeri 2 Toma, Nias Selatan Regency. This descriptive qualitative research selects 5 informants, consisting of second graders from Class VIII-A and Class VIII-B, third graders from Class IX-A and Class IX-B, and a library staff at SMP Negeri 2 Toma. The data analysis comprises data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. These data are collected through observation, interview, and documentation, and tested using triangulation, consisting of data source triangulation, data collection technique triangulation, and time triangulation. The findings demonstrate that 1) The library material collections are not only utilized as a learning source in classromms, but they are also important for developing the students' horizon and knowledge at SMP Negeri 2 Toma as and building reading culture; 2) The spatial plan of the library is able to provide comfort to the students at SMP Negeri 2 Toma by paying attention to nuisances resulting in sources of noise and keeping the students safe; in addition, the library also takes its wall paint, stable temperature in its rooms, and light that makes the rooms brighter into consideration; 3) Circulation service is not only utilized by the students at SMP Negeri 2 Toma to use the library materials (borrowing and returning books), but also to find out the procedures of library circulation activities, builds students' habit to act administratively, and to seek functions of all regulations prevailing in the library school in order to educate the students to be responsible.
