dc.description.abstract | One of the radiation protection programs has been carried out by measuring the
exposure to scattering radiation around the cesium-137 room at BPFK Medan.
Measurements were made in five rooms using a babyline surveymeter. The
measurements were carried out to obtain the value of radiation exposure rate in the
cesium-137 room, the value of radiation exposure rate in the room around the
cesium-137 room, and finally to obtain the effectiveness value of radiation shielding
in BPFK. Measurements were made by observing the point to be measured,
measuring and documenting. From the measurements taken, the radiation exposure
rate value was obtained after passing through the shield. In the operator's room, the
exposure rate is 0.00014 mSv/year; in the inventory room, 0.00007 mSv/year; in the
product test lab room, 0.00016 mSv/year; in the parking lot, 0.00009 mSv/year; in
the large hall meeting room, 0.00011 mSv/year. From the measurements inside and
outside the cesium-137 room, the percentage of radiation shielding effectiveness can
be calculated. In the operator's room the effectiveness of the shield is 94.40%; in the
inventory room the effectiveness of the shield is 98.44%; in the product test lab room
the effectiveness is 98.44%; in the parking lot the effectiveness is obtained at 98.8%.
Based on Perka BAPETEN No.4 Year 2013, the data shows that the value of
radiation exposure around the cesium-137 room at BPFK Medan is still within safe
