    Abstract
Beta titanium orthodontic wire is a type of wire commonly used in orthodontic treatment. Beta titanium wire has the potential to experience corrosion so it needs to be inhibited by the presence of inhibitors. The aim of this research was to determine the ability of kiwi peel ethanol extract (Actinidia deliciosa) in inhibiting the rate of corrosion and changes in the microstructure of beta titanium wire after immersion. This research is a laboratory experimental research design pre and post-test with control group design. The sample used was a beta titanium orthodontic wire with a diameter of 0.016x0.022 inches and a length of 6 cm. The samples were divided into 1 control group soaked in artificial saliva pH 5 and 3 treatment groups soaked in kiwi peel ethanol extract with concentrations of 400 ppm, 500 ppm and 600 ppm for a total of 28 samples. Soak for 7 days and store in an incubator at 37°C. The corrosion rate test was carried out using the method weight loss and analysis of changes in wire microstructure using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The results showed that the average corrosion rate of beta titanium wire in artificial saliva was 0.63 ± 0.422 mpy and kiwi peel ethanol extract with concentrations of 400 ppm, 500 ppm and 600 ppm was -0.16 ± 0.263 mpy, -0.11 ± 0.602 mpy, 0.15 ± 0.336 mpy. Test results Oneway ANOVA showed that there was a significant difference in the corrosion rate of beta titanium wire after immersion in kiwi peel ethanol extract, p=0.01 (p<0.05). The results of SEM analysis showed that there were differences in microstructure on the surface of the beta titanium wire after immersion in artificial saliva and immersion in kiwi peel ethanol extract.
