Level of Knowledge of Antihypertensive Drug Users towards Oral Complications at Mandala Public Health Center Medan in 2022
Abstract
The prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia increases every year. Hypertension requires continuous therapy, so sufferers are required to take medication regularly to control their blood pressure. Antihypertensive drugs can cause oral complications such as xerostomia, gingival enlargement, aphthous like ulcers , and lichenoid reactions. Therefore, users of antihypertensive drugs are at high risk of experiencing oral complications. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge of antihypertensive drug users and the level of knowledge based on education level and duration of hypertension towards oral complications. This study is a descriptive study of 80 antihypertensive drug users who came to the Mandala Medan Health Center. The sampling technique used the purposive sampling method . Selection was carried out on respondents based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data collection was carried out directly through interviews using questionnaires after being given an explanation before approval and informed consent to the patient. The data obtained were analyzed univariately. The results of this study indicate that the majority of antihypertensive drug users have a low level of knowledge (67.5 % ). The majority of respondents with elementary school education had less knowledge of 80%, while respondents with college education had less knowledge of only 25%. All respondents with a duration of hypertension <1 year had less knowledge of 100%, while respondents with a duration of hypertension >5 years had less knowledge of only 35.7 % . The conclusion of this study is that the level of knowledge of antihypertensive drug users regarding oral complications is in the less category, the majority of respondents with elementary school education have a higher level of less knowledge than respondents with college education, the majority of respondents with a duration of hypertension <1 year have a higher level of less knowledge than respondents with a duration of suffering >5 years.
