dc.description.abstractThis study discusses the background of the Balairung Balige Traditional Market as a tourist attraction that has tourist appeal in Balige City. The purpose of this study is to explain the Balerong Traditional Market as a tourist attraction in Balige City in 2004, explain the supporting and inhibiting factors in its development as a tourist attraction, and the developments that occurred in it in the period 2004-2017. The method used in this study is the historical method including topic selection, heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results of this study indicate that the Balerong Traditional Market has become a tourist attraction because in 2004 the tourism sector became one of the development goals in Toba Samosir Regency, which is supported by the historical and cultural values of the Balerong building, culinary tourism, and regional specialties available in it. As a tourist attraction, the Balerong Traditional Market has supporting and inhibiting factors in its development such as ease of accessibility, availability of accommodation, and various promotional efforts in the form of cultural attractions organized by the government and the community. Inhibiting factors include the inadequate environmental conditions around Balerong Traditional Market. In the period 2004-2017, many efforts were made by the government, so that there was development in terms of buildings and products offered in it. Balerong Traditional Market in 2004 became a tourist attraction that has tourist attractions, with various supporting factors and inhibiting factors in its development, so that although not too significant, Balerong Traditional Market continued to experience development until 2017.en_US
