Efektivitas Antihiperurisemia Ektrak Etanol Sereh (Cymbopogon citratus) terhadap Tikus Wistar (Rattus norvegicus)
Efectiveness Antihyperurisemic of Ethanol Ekstract of Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) in Wistar Rats (Rattus norvegicus)
Abstract
Background: Hyperuricemia is a condition where there is an increase in serum uric acid levels above normal. Excessive use of uric acid lowering drugs such as allopurinol causes side effects. Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) is a plant from the poaceae family. This plant contains flavonoids that can inhibit the xanthine oxidase enzyme so that the formation of uric acid is a reduced.
Objective: To know the effectiveness of ethanol extract of lemongrass (Cympogon citratus) as antihyperuricemia.
Method: This research begins with the manufacture of ethanol extract of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus). Furthermore characterization and phytochemical screening. This test was carried out for 7 days using 24 rats divided into 6 group (CMC Na), the positive control group (allopurinol) and 3 group of dose variations (EES 75, 150, 300 mg/kg BB). Each group measured initial uric acid levels as normal uric acid levels. Then chicken liver juice was induced for 7 days to 5 test groups. On the 7th day after 1 hour of induction of chicken liver, potassium oxonate was injected intraperitoneally (ip) 250 mg/kg BB. After 1 hour of potassium oxonate induction, uric acid levels were measured. One hour later each group was given treatment. One hour later uric acid levels were measured at the 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd hours. The test data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by Post Hock Tukey with a 95% confidence level.
Result: The percentage decrease in EES uric acid levels compared to the negative control (CMC Na) indicated that the ethanol extract of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) had an antihyperuricemic effect. The dose of EES 75 mg/kg BB had the closest percentage reduction to allopurinol 50 mg/kg BB which was 70,23%.
Conclusion: Ethanol extract of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) doses of 75, 150, 300 mg/kg BB can provide antihyperuricemic effect in Wistar rats induced chicken liver juice and potassium oxonate.
