Gout is a joint disease caused by high levels of uric acid in the blood (Hyperuricemia) resulting in a buildup of crystals in the joints which are the result of the breakdown of purines. The normal value of uric acid in adult women is 2.6-6.0 mg/dl. and in adult men is 3.5-7.0 mg/dl. Increased uric acid in the blood causes joints to become swollen, inflamed, hot, stiff and painful so that sufferers are unable to carry out normal activities. The main factor in gout is an unhealthy lifestyle such as eating foods that contain excessive purines. Therefore, one way to deal with gout is to adopt a healthy lifestyle. The aim of this senior practicum is to provide nursing care to gout sufferers. The results obtained from this senior practice were that there was a decrease in uric acid levels in clients who experienced hyperuricemia after health education interventions and checking uric acid levels. It can be concluded that the client's understanding of handling and preventing increased uric acid is more effective.
