Kekuatan Transversal Resin Akrilik Polimerisasi Panas Setelah Penambahan Serbuk Serat Batang Pisang Barangan (Musa acuminata L) 0,5%, 1% dan 1,5% Berat
Transverse Strength of Heat Polymerized Acrylic Resin After Addition of Barangan Banana Trunk Fiber Powder (Musa Acuminata L) 0.5%, 1% and 1.5% Weight
Abstract
Hot polymerized acrylic resin is used because it has a number of advantages but has the
disadvantage of being easily broken. Fiber addition in acrylic resins is reported to improve
mechanical properties, one of which is transverse strength. Banana stem fiber powder is a
natural fiber that has superior mechanical properties compared to other natural fibers. Objective
of this study was to determine the difference in transverse strength of acrylic resins after the
addition of 0.5%, 1% and 1.5% banana stem fiber powder by weight. The sample is a hot
polymerized acrylic resin in the form of plate (65x10x2.5mm). There were 4 research groups:
control group (I), fiber powder addition group of 0.5% by weight (II), 1% by weight (III) and
1.5% by weight (IV) with a sample size of 10 for each group. The ratio of powder (and fiber
powder): liquid of groups I, II, III, and IV were 9g :4.5ml; 8.955g (and 0.045g) : 4.5ml; 8.91g
(and 0.09g) : 4.5ml of liquid; and 8.865g (and 0.135g): 4.5ml of liquid. Mixing was carried out
until homogeneous and in the dough phase the dough was put into the mold and then pressed.
The curing process was carried out in a waterbath from room temperature until it reaches a
temperature of 74°C for 2 hours and then raised to 100°C for 1 hour. Transverse strength testing
using a Universal Testing Machine with a load of 50Kgf and a test speed of 5mm/minute. Data
were tested using Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney tests. The results of the mean and standard
deviation of transverse strength values in groups I, II, III and IV were 95.422±15.735 MPa,
76.372±10.599 MPa, and 64.664±8.544 MPa and 46.593±8.261 MPa, respectively. Kruskal
Wallis test showed that there is a significant difference in transverse strength (p<0.05) with a
value of p= 0,000. The Mann Whitney test results show that there is a significant difference (p<0.05) with a p value of 0.000. (p<0.05) between 2 groups, namely group I-II,
group I-III, group I-IV, group II-III, group II-IV, and group III-IV. It can be
concluded that there is a significant difference in the transverse strength of
acrylic resin between groups I and II, III, IV; and group II with III, IV as well as
group III with IV and there is a decrease in the transverse strength values after
the addition of banana stem fiber powder(Musa Acuminata L) 0.5, 1, and 1.5%
by weight.
