The use of soft denture liner (SDL) for long periods can increase plaque accumulation and make the oral cavity environment more anaerobic. An anaerobic environment can promote the excessive growth of microorganisms, especially Candida albicans, which can increase the risk of denture stomatitis. Therefore, SDL must be cleaned regularly. The most common cleaning method is chemical cleaning through immersion in a cleaning solution. However, immersion in cleaning solutions can cause changes in the material properties due to water absorption by the fillers in the SDL material, potentially leading to color changes. Therefore, the cleaning material selected must have good antimicrobial effectiveness without significantly affecting the SDL's properties, including its chemical and physical properties, such as water absorption and color stability. Regular use of cleaning materials is recommended to clean SDL of microorganisms, plaque, and food debris. One cleaning agent that can be used is sodium hypochlorite. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of immersion of autopolymerizing silicone-based soft denture liners in sodium hypochlorite on water absorption and color stability. This research is a laboratory experimental study. The study was conducted on samples of autopolymerizing silicone-based SDL immersed in 0.5% sodium hypochlorite and distilled water (control), with 24 samples of size 15×2 mm. Each sample was tested using an analytical balance to determine the water absorption rate and a colorimeter to measure color stability. Data was analyzed using univariate tests to determine the mean and standard deviation, and an independent T-test to assess the effects of immersion and the difference in immersion duration (2.5 and 5 days) on water absorption and color stability. The results of this study showed that the mean and standard deviation of water absorption in SDL immersed in 0.5% sodium hypochlorite for 2.5 days were 0.36±0.05, and in distilled water were 0.27±0.05. The mean and standard deviation of water absorption in SDL immersed in 0.5% sodium hypochlorite for 5 days were 0.71±0.08, and in distilled water were 0.46±0.06. The mean and standard deviation of color stability in SDL immersed in 0.5% sodium hypochlorite for 2.5 days were 0.91 ± 0.15, and in distilledwater were 0.37 ± 0.08. The mean and standard deviation of color stability in SDL immersed in 0.5% sodium hypochlorite for 5 days were 1.46 ± 0.21, and in distilledwater were 0.54± 0.10. Based on the independent T-test results, it was found that immersion of silicone-based autopolymerizing SDL in 0.5% sodium hypochlorite had an effect on water absorption and color stability. The independent T-test also showed a difference in the effect of immersion duration on water absorption and color stability. This study concluded that 0.5% sodium hypochlorite can be used as a cleaning agent.en_US
