Pengaruh Ekstrak Buah Asam Jawa(Tamarindus Indica L) terhadap Jumlah Sel Neutrofil pada Model Tikus Periodontitis
The Effect of Tamarind (Tamarindus indica L) Extract on the Number of Neutrophil Cells in Periodontitis Rat Models
Abstract
Periodontitis is an inflammatory process that occurs in periodontal tissues
caused by microorganisms. Tamarind (Tamarindus indica L) is a tropical plant native
to East Africa. Tamarind has several contents that play a role in anti-inflammatories
such as tannins, saponins, flavonoids and alkaloids. Neutrophils are white blood cells
that first appear when the inflammatory process begins. The purpose of this study was
to determine the effect of tamarind extract on the number of neutrophil cells in model
periodontitis rats. This research is an experimental study with a post test control group
design. In this study, 32 samples of periodontitis rat models were used which were
divided into four treatment groups (tamarind fruit extract 3.125%, 6.25%, 12.5% and
placebo and divided into two days of observation (3rd and 7
th day). Data were analyzed
by one way ANOVA and t-independent test. The results showed that there was an
influence of tamarind fruit extract (Tamarindus indica L) on the number of neutrophil
cells in the rat model of periodontitis on the 3rd and 7th days. The group given tamarind
fruit extract had a lower number of neutrophil cells compared to the placebo group. The
tamarind fruit extract group with a concentration of 12.5% isthe concentration thatshows
the lowest average number of neutrophil cells on day 3 (8.75±1.51) and 7th
(1.56±0.31).
