Markets play a central role in driving the economy of society. Besides being a primary destination for local products, markets also serve as significant employment hubs for residents. In this regard, the traditional Sei Sikambing market, located on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Medan city, and managed by the City Government (Pemko), has actively undergone periodic physical improvements. However, these improvements have not been sufficient to address the issues at the Sei Sikambing market. Traders still complain about the physical condition of the market buildings. The Sei Sikambing market has high potential due to its strategic location at the intersection of two main roads. However, poor market management, including irregular layout and the construction of stalls along the roadside that impede traffic flow, exacerbates the situation. Additionally, the traditional Sei Sikambing market, situated in the middle of a residential area, has limited space, resulting in inadequate parking areas, and the market interior appears dark with poor air circulation. This research aims to explore the principles of sustainable architecture in finding a revitalization concept for the traditional Sei Sikambing market through literature review, field observation, questionnaire distribution, and expert interviews. The literature review on sustainable architecture in this research highlights the positive impact of applying sustainable architecture principles, ranging from energy efficiency, such as the use of solar panels for electricity generation combined with building roof design, to the utilization of light and air related to openings in the building.en_US
