    Abstract
Periodontitis is the result of progressive and persistent inflammation of the supporting tissues of the teeth, leading to clinical attachment loss, alveolar bone loss, and the formation of periodontal pockets. Periodontitis is a multifactorial disease involving bacteria, including Porphyromonas gingivalis. Porphyromonas gingivalis is a black-pigmented, Gram-negative, obligate anaerobic bacterium. Herbal treatments can be used as adjunct antibacterial therapy. This study aims to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of the antibacterial effect of a combination of snakehead fish and betel leaf extracts against the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis at concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, and 10%. This research is a laboratory experimental study with a post-test only control group design. Snakehead fish and betel leaves were first extracted into three concentrations, followed by antibacterial activity testing using the dilution method to determine MIC and MBC. The data were normally distributed, so further analysis was conducted using one-way ANOVA and Post Hoc (LSD) tests. The results of this study showed that MIC values were observed in betel leaf extract at a 5% concentration and in the combination of snakehead fish and betel leaf extracts at a 2.5% concentration against Porphyromonas gingivalis. The conclusion of this study is that the combination of snakehead fish and betel leaf extracts can inhibit the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis.
