A heat exchanger is a device to transfer heat from one fluid to another due
to temperature differences. The tool can exchange and control heat by increasing
and decreasing the temperature of the substance by moving high temperature
substances to low temperature substances. A shell and helical tube model type heat
exchanger was studied to assess the heat transfer coefficient and exergy loss. Four
design parameters including coil pitch, tube diameter, hot and cold flow rates,
which are more significant for heat exchanger performance, the results show that
tube diameter and cold flow rate are the most significant design parameters of heat
transfer and exergy loss respectively. Furthermore, the highest nusselt number is
achieved with more cold and hot flow rates and also, the heat transfer coefficient
decreases with increase in coil pitch as well as with increase in heat flow rate, the
exergy loss increases. The optimum levels for heat transfer coefficient are: 20 cm
shell length, 8 cm tube diameter, while 104,3 cm helical tube length, 0.635 cm
diameter
