Warenhuis Exhibition and Convention Hall (Contextual Architecture Theme)
Abstract
Warenhuis Exhibition And Convention Hall is a multipurpose building that
functions specifically as an exhibition and meeting building. Located on Jl. Hinduism,
Kesawan Village, Medan Barat District, Medan City. Initially this building is a heritage
building of the Dutch colonial era that was built in 1916 named Medans Warenhuis.
Until now the Warenhuis building is still standing strong but its condition is very
concern. In an effort to care for and maintain historic heritage sites, Warenhuis comes
with a new function as an exhibition and meeting building without losing the original
characteristics of its architectural style. The location of Warenhuis is in a very strategic
location, precisely in the Heritage City of Medan and as a business center in the middle
of the city. This location creates a very suitable place as a service and commercial
center. By applying observation and interview research methods related to this project,
this location also raises a variety of existing problems, ranging from parking, drainage,
sense of place, the issue of toll roads in the city to the problem of Non-Green Open
Space (RTNH) in the town square. Application of Contextual Architectural Themes in
design, all aspects that influence this design are carefully reviewed. So as to create a
building that has character and can provide solutions to several factors that are around
it. The existence of this building is expected to answer various issues around its
location and at the same time improve the economy in the industrial and tourism
sectors.
