Postpartum blues is characterized by depressive/sad/disorphic reactions, crying easily, irritability, anxiety, headaches, unstable feelings, tend to blame themselves, feel inadequate, sleep disturbances, and appetite disorders. The causes of postpartum blues in the world experienced by mothers after childbirth are not known for certain, but are thought to be influenced by internal and external factors such as hormonal fluctuations, psychological and personality factors, a history of pregnancy and childbirth with complications, cesarean delivery, unplanned pregnancy, low birth weight babies (LBW), and in mothers who breastfeed and experience difficulties in breastfeeding and mothers who do not have experience caring for babies. The purpose of this study was to provide nursing care by using music therapy as an alternative relaxation therapy that is easy to do as a treatment or prevention for mothers who suffer from postnatal blues in the postpartum period at UPT Puskesmas Medan Johor Working Area. The method used was observation and interviews conducted on postpartum women and measurement of stressors of postpartum women using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) as an early detection of postpartum depression. The results showed an increase in sleep time for mothers who experienced sleep pattern disorders and provided comfort for mothers who experienced stress or lack of concentration due to lack of sleep.
