The Histology of the Male Mice Testicles (Mus musculus L.) Exposed to the Cigarette Smoke and Given by Chinese Betel Leaf Extract (Peperomia pellucida L.)
Abstract
Chinese betel leaf extract has the potential to omit the free radicals due to its antioxidant activity. The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy of Chinese betel leaf extract on the morphology and histology of the teste of male mice (Mus musculus L.) exposed to cigarette smoke. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 4 replicates. Negative control was normal mice treatment, followed by positive control exposed of cigarette smoke and vitamin C; mice treatment exposed of cigarette smoke by Chinese betel leaf extract at doses of 50, 70, 90 mg/kgBB, respectively After 20 days of treatment, the mice were necropsied and the testicular organs were harvested and prepared by the paraffin method with hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining. The results show that the chinese betel leaf extract (Peperomia pellucida L.) has no significant differences in testicular morphology weight, but give significant effect on improving of the seminiferous tubule diameter, the germinal apithelium thickness of seminiferous tubules, the spermatogonium, the spermatocytes, the spermatids and the Leydig cells.
