This research discusses the psychology of characters in the short story العاصفة /Al-‘Āṣifah/ ‘The Storm’ by Khalil Gibran. The purpose of this study is to analyze the psychology of the character Yusuf and the narrator using a literary psychology approach based on the hierarchy of needs theory proposed by Abraham Maslow. This research is library research with a qualitative descriptive method. The data used in this study consists of sentences containing psychological elements of the characters in the short story, which were collected through observation and note-taking techniques. The results of this study found 31 psychological data points based on the hierarchy of needs for the characters Yusuf and the narrator, which include physiological needs, safety, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization. Both characters in this short story can fulfill their psychological needs but with different focuses. For the character Yusuf, the more dominant needs are esteem and self-actualization, which are reflected in the achievement of personal integrity and the search for inner peace. Meanwhile, for the narrator, the more dominant needs are basic needs such as physiological needs, safety, and love and belonging, which are evident from his efforts to meet physical and emotional needs through protection and relationships with Yusuf.
