Description of Sleep Quality in the Elderly in Padang Bulan Selayang I Village, Medan Selayang Subdistrict
Abstract
Elderly is a group of people who reach the age of 60 years and older who are characterized by a decline in physical, psychological, and social abilities. These changes can affect their health conditions, one of which is the problem of inadequate sleep and resulting in poor sleep quality which can disrupt the quality of life of the elderly. Healthy elderly generally have a total daily sleep duration of around 7-8 hours per day. This research aims to describe the sleep quality of elderly in Padang Bulan Selayang I Village, Medan Selayang Subdistrict. This research employs descriptive analysis method. The sample was selected using random sampling method, with a total of 82 respondents in Padang Bulan Selayang I Village, Medan Selayang Subdistrict. Data collection was conducted using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. The results showed that 47 elderly (57.3%) have good sleep quality and 35 elderly (42.7%) have poor sleep quality. It is expected that people living around or with elderly provide guidance and education on the importance of adequate and quality sleep for the elderly, establish a regular nighttime sleep schedule, and create a comfortable environment for the elderly.
