Greenhouse gases are naturally occurring gases in the atmosphere, but as human activity increases, the concentration of greenhouse gases continues to increase, causing global warming. Carbon footprint is a measure of greenhouse gas emissions produced directly or indirectly by certain individuals or activities. Determination of the number of samples in this study using the slovin formula and obtained a total sample of 394 respondents. The value of emissions is calculated using the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) tier 2 method. This study aims to calculate carbon footprint emissions generated from household activities in sub-urban areas of Pematang Siantar city and determine the effect of household characteristics on emissions generated and emission mapping per village using arcGIS. The results of the research analysis from the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions found that the emissions generated in the study area amounted to 86,890.12 tons of CO2eq / year with details from the use of LPG of 5,999.68 tons of CO2eq / year, from fuel consumption of 13,181.294 tons of CO2eq / year and from the use of electricity of 67,709.143 tons of CO2eq / year. Based on the results of the SPSS test, it is found that household characteristics, specifically family members and electricity power, have an influence on the carbon footprint emissions produced.
