Abstract
School libraries have seen significant improvements in their educational design, serving as information centers that can boost reading interest, and as the center of integration of educational activities where students, teachers and librarians can work together to expand knowledge and experience in order to achieve an educational goal. The objective of this research is to identify the variables affecting students' reading interest at the Library of Al-Ulum Private High School, Medan. This research uses qualitative descriptive approach. The primary and secondary data are collected by the researcher directly, including the methodology for data collection. Data analysis techniques involve the use of data reduction, data visualization, and data verification procedures. The research findings namely, 1. It is essential for the library to keep developing to enable children to think more broadly and expansively as their abilities and cognitive skills significantly impact their reading interest and development. 2. The library's collection is quite limited, consisting primarily of package books. Some students still visit the library to read, but they often find it boring. Additionally, teachers come to the library to have discussions with students rather than just focusing on reading. 3. Due to the lack of available facilities, students are less motivated to visit the library or read there, often coming only when assigned homework by their teachers. This further contributes to the inadequacy of the library for students. The research concludes that Al-Ulum Private High School Medan still have numerous weaknesses, including inadequate facilities and a limited collection of books in the library, which has led to many students showing less interest in reading or visiting.
