Periodontitis is a chronic infectious disease that continues from untreated gingivitis. The inflammation associated with periodontitis leads to the degradation of type I collagen in periodontal tissue. Bromelain enzyme exhibits various biological activities such as anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant, fibrinolytic, debridement, analgesic, and proliferative effects. Purpose to analyze the effect of 0.1% and 1% bromelain enzyme gel concentrations on type I collagen levels in a rat model of periodontitis. Methods uses true experimental post-test only control group design. The study involved 25 male wistar rats divided into groups of healthy rats, periodontitis, periodontitis treated with placebo gel, periodontitis treated with 0,1% and 1% bromelain enzyme gel. Wistar rats are induced with periodontitis for 7 days and then treated for 7 days. Determination of type I Collagen levels using ELISA method from wistar rats gingival tissue. Results showed that the highest type I Collagen levels were found in the periodontitis group without treatment, followed by the placebo-treated group, healthy rats, the 1% bromelain enzyme gel group, and the 0.1% bromelain enzyme gel group. The Kruskal-Wallis test showed no significant effect of 0.1% and 1% bromelain enzyme gel on type I collagen levels in the periodontitis rat model(p≥0.05). Conclusion there is no significant effect of 0.1% and 1% bromelain enzyme gel on type I collagen levels in a rat model of periodontitis.en_US
