Abstract

Congestive heart failure (CHF)/congestive heart failure is a condition where the heart's function as a pump to deliver oxygen-rich blood to the body is not sufficient to meet the body's needs. This study aims to carry out nursing care with the application of a 45 º semifowler position to reduce pain intensity and shortness of breath in patients with congestive heart failure. This research was conducted using a case study method with a nursing process approach which includes: assessment, data analysis, nursing planning, implementation and evaluation. The nursing diagnoses that appeared on Mrs. N were Decreased Cardiac Output and Hypervolemia. After carrying out nursing actions, the results were found, that after applying the 45º semifowler position for 3 days there was a decrease in pain and shortness of breath felt by Mrs. N. The results obtained were changes in the pain scale from moderate pain to mild pain, and the shortness of breath felt by Mrs. N was gone. This is because the application of the 45º semifowler position can increase oxygen saturation and breathing, with the 45º semifowler position can also produce better sleep quality because the position affects the state of cardiac output and the development of the lung cavity. Thus the intensity of pain and shortness of breath in patients can be reduced.
