In this research study, barium hexaferrite substituted with yttrium (BaFe(12-x)YxO19), microwave absorber materials has been successfully synthesized using solid-state reaction method, pre-sintering at 800 °C for 6 hours and sintering at 1200 °C for 3 hours. The crystal structure, phase, morphology, and reflection loss were characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope - Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX), and Vector Network Analytical (VNA). There are three types of materials that have been made with substitution variations of x = 0.0 (BaFe12O19), x = 0.1 (BaFe11,9Y0,1O19), and x = 0.3 (BaFe11,7Y0,3O19). The results of XRD analysis show that the higher the amount of dopant can increase the size of the crystal diameter, but there is a hematite peak (α-Fe2O3) that will form at variation x = 0.3. SEM analysis results show that the particle of BaFe(12-x)YxO19 is distributed well and there is an increase in particle size as the amount of dopant increases. EDX analysis shows that as the amount of Y3+ ion increases, the number of Fe atoms decreases and the number of Y atoms increases. Furthermore, VNA analysis results show that the x = 0.1 sample variation has optimal absorption when compared to other sample variations with a reflection loss value of -7,34 dB at a frequency of 11,32 GHz which has an absorption percentage value of 81,51 %.
