Pengaruh Perbandingan Serbuk Halus dan Serat Kasar Kayu terhadap Sifat Fisik dan Mekanik Papan Partikel Menggunakan Resin Poliester
The Effect of the Ratio of Fine Powder and Coarse Fiber of Wood on the Physical and Mechanical Properties of Particle Board Using Polyester Resin
Abstract
Utilization of wood waste into particle board is an alternative in order to
optimize the utilization of wood resources which are increasingly limited and
are expected to provide added value. This study aims to determine the effect of
the ratio of adhesive composition to fillers (25:75, 35:65, 45:55) and the
composition of fine wood powder (0%, 10%, 15%, 20%) of the composition of
coarse wood fiber, to physical and mechanical properties of polyester particle
board with fine sawdust and coarse wood fiber fillers which include density test,
thickness expansion test, Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) test, Modulus Of Rupture
(MOR) test, Impact Strength test, and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).
This research was conducted at the Research Laboratory and Research
Laboratory, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering,
University of North Sumatra. This study obtained density results with all
variations of particle board that met JIS A 5908-2003 standards (0.4 g/cm3 –
0.9 g/cm3), seven of the twelve variations of particle board products met
thickness development according to JIS A 5908-2003 standards ( ≤ 12%), None
of the particle board products met the JIS A 5908-2003 standard (≥ 1,961.33
MPa) for the modulus of elasticity (MOE) value, four of the twelve variations of
particle board products met the JIS A 5908 standard 2003 (≥ 7,845 MPa), the
highest impact strength value was obtained, namely in the ratio of filler
composition to 55:45 the addition of 20% fine wood powder was 4651.33 J/m2.
