As the world transitions towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources, solar power has emerged as a leading solution. Solar panels, playing a crucial role in generating eco-friendly electricity, are instrumental in reducing carbon emissions. However, despite these advantages, the implementation of photovoltaic (PV) systems presents technical challenges, particularly in addressing the harmonics produced by PV inverters. These harmonics can disrupt overall system performance, necessitating effective mitigation methods. This study explores and compares two harmonic control methods—Shunt Active Filter (SAF) and Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) in reducing harmonic currents in non-linear loads. Through simulations and analysis, the results indicate that the SAF method significantly reduces total harmonic distortion (THD), decreasing it from 32.07%, 35.55%, and 33.10% to 0.39%, 2.72%, and 2.80% in phases R, S, and T, respectively. While the SPWM method results in a lowering THD to 1.26%, 2.95%, and 2.92%. In conclusion, the SAF method proves to be more effective in minimizing harmonic currents, making it the superior choice for improving PV inverter system performance.en_US
