Background: Health is a basic right of every individual and an important need that must be met, in accordance with the goals of the Indonesian nation. Based on Law No. 36 of 2009, health includes physical, mental, spiritual, and social conditions that support social and economic productivity. Health is also an indicator of welfare and a priority in national development. The pharmaceutical industry has an important role in providing medicines for health services. Along with increasing public awareness of health, the pharmaceutical industry is expected to be able to provide medicines with the types, quantities, and qualities that suit their needs. According to BPOM Regulation Number 7 of 2024, the pharmaceutical industry is a business entity that has a permit to produce drugs or drug ingredients. The pharmaceutical industry is required to apply the principles of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to ensure product quality in accordance with the requirements and intended use. Pharmacists have an important role in the pharmaceutical industry to ensure the quality, safety, and efficacy of the drugs produced. They are responsible for supervising production and quality in accordance with GMP. Pharmacists are expected to have strong knowledge, practical skills, and managerial abilities in order to be able to solve problems in the pharmaceutical industry professionally and effectively. To produce professional pharmacists with knowledge, experience, and competence in the pharmaceutical industry, the Pharmacist Profession Study Program (PSPA) of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of North Sumatra, organizes the Pharmacist Professional Work Practice (PKPA) in the pharmaceutical industry. PKPA aims to provide prospective pharmacists with an overview of the world of work in the pharmaceutical industry.
Objective: To know the role and responsibilities of pharmacists and understand the implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at PT. Kalbe Farma Tbk.
Method: Pharmacist Professional Internship (PKPA) in the Pharmaceutical Industry of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk is carried out including placement in the production department.
Results: Understand the implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at PT Kalbe Farma Tbk and gain insight, knowledge, skills and practical experience to carry out pharmaceutical work in the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Conclusion: Pharmacists have a very important role in the pharmaceutical industry as a driver and director in the implementation of GMP, and related to drug quality, especially in key positions, namely as head of production, head of quality control, and head of quality assurance. The responsibility of pharmacists as professionals who participate in determining the quality of products produced through their expertise in the pharmaceutical world.
